As one of the largest villages that makes up the downtown district, the historic Gaslamp Quarter has to be the most well known and enjoyed. The sixteen-block area from Broadway and K Streets between Fourth and Sixth Streets offers something for everyone.
Home to most of the clubs, theaters, and restaurants in the city, the Gaslamp offers one, if not the most diverse and exciting experiences available in the city. By day, the area is alive with the sounds of an active city, business people and visitors making their way around the city, and by night those same people blowing off some steam in the many pubs and clubs that dot the area, or grabbing a bite in a trattoria or bistro.
With the historic nature of the area, the sights, sounds, restaurants and entertainment that the Gaslamp possesses makes it one, if not "the" destination for visitors who come to San Diego. With its old world charm and ambiance, culture and outdoor festivals, the historic Gaslamp Quarter the natural choice for you to visit while enjoying the warm California sun.
The Gaslamp for Families
Despite its urban setting, the Gaslamp Quarter is very family friendly. Most of the businesses and restaurants here can and willingly accommodate children, making for a great day or night out on the town. There are a couple of parks close by, if you are looking for some green grass and open space to run around in and is minutes from the boardwalk along the bay, offering a great family walk while enjoying the views of the bay and Point Loma in the distance. The area is also minutes from the famous beaches that line to coast, giving you the option of spending the day in the sand and the night in a small trattoria enjoying a fine dinner and a bottle of wine.
